Our Story
The Volunteer Well is not just a charity. We’re a movement, a beacon of compassion and inclusivity, and a testament to the human spirit’s power. Founded by the visionary Shabnam Naz Ansari, our mission is to serve humanity without barriers, costs, or intermediaries.
Our online hub is a space where everyone, from children to seniors and every beautiful identity in between, finds a place to belong, contribute, and grow. We champion direct support, where neighbours help neighbours in a web of mutual care that strengthens the fabric of our society.

Our (Shabnam’s) Why
The Volunteer Well’s journey is rooted in Shabnam’s profound life experiences. Her personal challenges have inspired her to seek ways to uplift others.
She grew up as a Muslim in Pakistan and was in a 13-year abusive relationship she struggled to get out of due to her religion and lack of outside support. Finally, after three long years fighting in courts for her basic human rights and dignity, she was granted her divorce but then came another battle for custody of their three young children.
Shabnam was at her lowest and didn’t have any fight left, so she handed her children to her ex-husband. She left the country in search of somewhere to recuperate her physical and mental strength as she fought to regain custody of her children. She fought her legal, personal, and spiritual battles from her new home in Ontario, Canada.
No parent should have to feel the way Shabnam did, living a life she couldn’t escape without anyone supporting her. That’s why she founded The Volunteer Well: to create a community where basic human rights and dignity are respected without prejudice or judgment, and where helping others helps builds personal empowerment and communities.
